Vereschagin: Two Dervishes : <b>Vasili Vasilievich Vereschagin (1842-1904)</b>    Two Dervishes  signed with initials, oil on canvas     <i>49.5 by 35cm.</i>    Provenance:  Purchased by the previous owner at Sotheby’s in 1962.    Painted circa 1870 in Turkestan. Other images of dervishes by Vereschagin are to be found in both the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, and in the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. A similar study, of a single dervish, 53 by 26cm., was sold at Sotheby’s London, The Russian sale, 19th December 1996, lot 102, for £38,900 (illustrated on the cover).
